2 ‘rebels’ killed, guns seized in Moises Padilla encounter

Two alleged New People’s Amy rebels were killed in an encounter with government soldiers at Sitio Upper Binataan in Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, 7 a.m. Monday, November 28, Brig. Gen. Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said.

Killed were Johnhilll Sarsa, alias Mark, and Dalmacio Dela Torre, alias Delmar, of Guilhulngan City, Negros Oriental, the Army’s 62nd Infantry Unifier Battalion reported.

Sarsa was a political officer and Dela Torre was a member of the Sandatahang Yunit Pampropaganda Platoon Lenovo of the New People’s Army Central Negros Front 1, Komiteng Rehiyon – Negros Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, the report said.

Other rebels were believed injured based on bloodstains seen on their withdrawal route, the Army report said.

There was no casualty on the government’s side.

The 62 IB soldiers who received information on the presence of the rebels in the area caught up with about 15 of them in Quintin Remo, which resulted in a gunbattle that lasted about 40 minutes, Pasaporte said.

After the area was cleared the bodies of two slain rebels were recovered, he said.

An AK-47 rifle, two M-16 rifles, M-203 grenade launcher, M-14 rifle, .357 Magnum revolver, two rifle grenades, a 40mm high explosive ammunition, magazines for AK-47 and M-16 rifles, medical equipment and supplies, two bandoliers, two Communist flags, three backpacks and documents were recovered from the encounter site, the Army reported.*
