Two men were killed in motorcycle crashes along the national highways in Hinigaran and La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 27 and 28.

In Hinigaran, an 83-year-old pedestrian identified as alias “Jesus,” a resident of Purok Ipil, Brgy. Pilar, died after being hit by a motorcycle along the national highway in the same barangay at around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police said the motorcycle, a black Bajaj 100cc with no plate number, was driven by alias “Romy,” 51, with alias “Nestor,” 40, on board.

The two Brgy. Sibucao, San Enrique, residents were traveling from the Hinigaran town proper toward Binalbagan when the elderly pedestrian crossed the highway from west to east.

The motorcycle hit the pedestrian, causing both the rider and the victim to fall onto the road, resulting in injuries.

The pedestrian and the motorcycle driver were rushed to the Hinigaran Medical Clinic, where the pedestrian later died, while the driver remained under medical observation.

In a separate incident in La Carlota City, a 48-year-old motorcycle rider from Victorias City was killed after losing control of his motorcycle at the national highway in Brgy. RSB at around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police identified the victim as the driver of a Honda XRM 125 motorcycle, which was traveling from La Carlota City proper toward Brgy. RSB when he attempted to avoid a parked truck loaded with sugarcane stalks along the roadside.

Authorities said early warning devices were properly installed on the parked truck, but the motorcycle rider lost control and fell onto the cemented road, sustaining multiple injuries.

The victim was rushed by the La Carlota City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Team to the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead by the attending physician.
