Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and Education Secretary Sonny Angara are expected in Negros Occidental on Tuesday, Nov. 11, to assess the damage caused by typhoons “Tino” and ”Uwan” on the province.
They are visiting Negros Occidental on behalf of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and will meet with Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson for an executive briefing.
The initial “Tino” infrastructure damage in Negros Occidental hit P430 million, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) reported on Monday
It also reported that 6,855 houses were destroyed and 41,435 damaged in 16 local government units.
The LGUs with destroyed and damaged houses were the cities of Sipalay, San Carlos, Bago, Silay, Escalante and La Carlota, and the municipalities of Isabela, Toboso, San Enrique, Binalbagan, Pontevedra, Cauayan, Manapla, E.B. Magalona, Hinigaran and La Castellana.

The Office of the Civil Defense also reported seven bridges and five roads still not passable in central Negros, and no electricity in the Hinigaran, Salvador Benedicto, Pulupandan, Moises Padilla and La Castellana police stations.
There was also still no network connectivity in Moises Padilla and La Castellana, the OCD reported.
The governor with Mayor Añejo Nicor and Vice Mayor Rhummyla Mangilimutan inspected the typhoon damage in La Castellana on Monday.
The governor inspected the impassable bridges damaged by the typhoon in Taytay Bungahin, Taytay Taborda – Igpanulong and in Sitio 92, the vice mayor said.
She thanked the governor for the provincial government support provided to the affected families in La Castellana.*
