Rep. Francisco “Kiko” Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) takes the lead in rallying more sports activities in the 3rd District of Negros Occidental with the holding of the 1st Cong. Kiko Cup – 2022 Metro 3rd Basketball Tournament this December.
Benitez convened sports coordinators and coaches of E.B. Magalona, Murcia, Silay, Talisay and Victorias on Wednesday, November 16, to kick-off the preparations for the Open Category Basketball Tournament, and named Talisay Councilor Rolin Meliton tournament chairperson, a press release from his office said Thursday.
“We in the Third District look forward to renewing ties and camaraderie and promote anew wellness and the spirit of sportsmanship through this sports project, a friendly open category match among basketball players of the District,” Benitez said as he announced the activity to the local government units through the chief executives.
The competition starts on December, with matches to be held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will run until late January of 2023.
The tournament champion will win P50,000, first runner-up – P30,000, second runner-up – P20,000 and third runner up -P15,000. The first team to be eliminated will receive a consolation prize of P10,000, the press release said.
Also up for grabs are a P 5,000 award for Mythical Five Players and P3,000 for the MVP, it added.
The meeting presided by Meliton discussed rules and guidelines on tournament format, player eligibility, venues , uniforms and schedules.
An opening program will be set later.
