Will it be a Zayco and Zayco uncle and nephew tandem for the top posts of Kabankalan City in the 2025 polls?
There are talks that former Kabankalan mayor Isidro Zayco will run for mayor with incumbent Vice Mayor Miguel “Migz” Zayco as his runningmate.
Isidro Zayco, who is also a former Negros Occidental governor, said on Tuesday, July 30, that he did not want to talk about politics now.
“You will know in October,” he said, when the certificates of candidacy are filed.
“That question will be answered at the proper time,” Miguel Zayco, in a separate interview, also said on Tuesday.
Incumbent Kabankalan Mayor Benjie Miranda has announced that he is seeking reelection in 2025.
Isidro Zayco said he does not want to be the provincial chairman of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) anymore, although he will remain with the party.
Since he does not hold an elective post now, the position should be given to Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, Rep. Mercedes Alvarez (Neg. Occ. 6th District) or Rep. Gerardo Valmayor (Neg. Occ., 1st District, who are all his partymates.
It is the party leadership that will decide whom to appoint as NPC chairman for the province, he said.*
