Zayco art exhibit set at Casa A. Gamboa

Homegrown artist Miko Zayco will hold a solo exhibit of his unique artworks at the Casa A. Gamboa in Silay City, Negros Occidental, from May 11 to June 11.

Miko – or “Michael Nicholas”, his baptismal name as he signs his pieces – comes from local artistic ancestry. His mother is Negrense mosaic artist, Lisa de Leon–Zayco whose works include the collaborative masterpiece “Bao” done with renowned local artist, Paeng Paderna, that is permanently displayed at the Negros Museum, Reena Gamboa of Casa A. Gamboa said Wednesday, May 5.

Even with such gifted ancestry, Miko however, has grown into his own artistic persona. The early exposure to his mother’s works combined with having attended workshops with many renowned artists such as Pandy Aviado, Mandy Bugaon, and Ambie Abaño, has moulded Miko into the artist that he is, Gamboa added.

Entitled “Resurgence,” Miko’s upcoming exhibit showcases his works that are of the Abstract Expressionism art genre. His master creations are reflections of these most trying of times – pandemic. They express the feelings that are characteristic of our current “imprisoned” state wherein we examine who we are and what we hold in essence.

Having such an exhibit at the Casa A. Gamboa is a perfect conglomerate as both works and venue imbibe “Resurgence” to a tee – a resurgence of who we are through Miko’s creations and a resurgence of who we were through this old-world venue.*
