Rep. Emilio “Dino” Yulo (Neg. Occ., 5th District) also signed the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte bringing to ten the Negros Island Region (NIR) representatives who are supporting the move.
Yulo signed the complaint after the House adjourned on Wednesday night, Rep. Stephen Paduano (Abang Lingkod Partylist) said Thursday, Feb. 6.
His name was not among the 215 representatives on the official list of signatories when the House adjourned.
Yulo, who could not be reached for comment, was the last to sign among all of the NIR representatives.
Paduano said more members of the House were also set to sign the complaint.
The House transmitted the impeachment documents to the Senate for the conduct of a trial.
Senate President Francis Escudero ruled out any impeachment proceedings during Congress’ adjournment, citing legal and procedural constraints that must first be addressed before the Senate can act on any complaint.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday distanced himself from the ongoing impeachment proceedings.
“The executive cannot have a hand in the impeachment. Walang role ang executive sa impeachment (The executive does not have a role in the impeachment),” Marcos said during a press briefing at Malacañang.
Paduano said the members of Congress who signed the impeachment complaint did so because they are answerable to the Filipino people following the findings of the House investigation on the vice president.
The seven Articles of Impeachment against the Duterte include the conspiracy to assassinate the First Couple and the House Speaker; malversation of confidential funds; bribery and corruption during Duterte’s tenure as Education chief; unexplained wealth and failure to disclose assets; and involvement in extrajudicial killings in Davao City; destabilization, insurrection, and public disorder efforts.
The NIR representatives who were among the 215 who initially signed the impeachment complaint were Gerardo Valmayor – 1st District, Alfredo Marañon III – 2nd District, Paduano – 3rd District caretaker, Juliet Marie Ferrer – 4th District, and Mercedes Alvarez – 6th District of Negros Occidental; Greg Gasataya of Bacolod; Jocelyn Sy Limkaichong (1st District) and Manuel “Chiquiting” Sagarbarria – (2nd District) of Negros Oriental; and Zaldy Villa of Siquijor.*with a report from PNA
