Work in Bacolod gov’t offices, classes cancelled on Tuesday

Acting Mayor El Cid Familiaran has ordered the cancellation of classes at all levels and the suspension of work in government offices in Bacolod City on Tuesday, August 29, due to inclement weather conditions brought on by Typhoon Goring.

Employers of private businesses and establishments located within Bacolod are also highly encouraged to suspend work in order for their employees to attend to the needs of their families

affected by the inclement weather, Familliaran said in Executive Order 47, Series of 2023.

Familiaran said work in all government offices, including national government offices, located within Bacolod will be cancelled, except for those that render essential services to the public during disasters.

The Commission on Elections in Bacolod may be allowed to continue accepting certificates of candidacy for the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on Tuesday, he said.

Familiaran reminded barangay officials and residents of flood-prone and low-lying barangays in the city of Bacolod to actively monitor the situation in their respective areas of responsibility during the typhoon.

He pointed out that the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned that “Goring” will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon causing heavy rains and gusty winds in the Visayas.

PAGASA has also warned that serious flooding is expected in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, due to the effects of the Southwest Monsoon, he said.*
