A 63-year-old woman was killed and her 73-year-old husband was injured after a motorcycle hit them while they were crossing a pedestrian lane in front of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City at 3:41 a.m. Thursday, June 25.

The motorcycle driver, identified as “Zyrll,” 24, and his back rider, “John,” 32, were also injured in the collision, the police said.

The driver is allegedly a barangay SK secretary.

Police identified the fatality as alias “Rosita,” 63, of Brgy. Pasil, E.B. Magalona, while her injured husband was identified as alias “Genaro,” 73.

Investigation showed that the couple had come from the hospital and were crossing toward the east using the pedestrian lane.

Police said they had reached the middle of the road when the Yamaha Aerox motorcycle driven by Zyrll struck them while traveling north.

The motorcycle was estimated to be traveling at around 70 kilometers per hour before the collision, police added.

Rosita hit her head on the pavement and showed no signs of life at the scene.

Her body was taken to Abe Funeral Homes.

Genaro, Zyrll, and John were brought by the Amity Ambulance and Chamber Rescue Team to the CLMMRH for treatment.

Traffic Enforcement Unit chief Capt. Elmer Bonilla said the motorcycle driver was allegedly intoxicated during the incident.

Witnesses also alleged that the riders were carrying alcoholic beverages.

Bonilla said they are preparing the documents required for the possible filing of a case, but the victim’s family has yet to decide whether to pursue a complaint.

He said investigators will meet with the parties after the family has attended to the deceased and once the motorcycle driver is discharged from the hospital.*
