Woman, 2 children drown in failed rescue

A 64-year-old businesswoman died along with two children on Saturday morning, October 11, after she attempted to rescue the minors from strong sea currents in Brgy. Inayawan, Cauayan, Negros Occidental.

The victims were identified by police as the 64-year-old businesswoman, a 15-year-old girl, and a 5-year-old boy, all residents of Sitio Capaclan, Brgy. Inayawan.

The Cauayan Police Station reported that the two minors were swimming near the shoreline at approximately 9 a.m. Saturday when strong waves suddenly pulled them away.

The elderly woman immediately jumped into the water to try and save them but was also swept away by the current.

Responding teams from the Cauayan Police, Philippine Coast Guard, and Bureau of Fire Protection conducted retrieval operations.

The teams later recovered the bodies of the victims, who were then brought to the Cauayan District Hospital where they were declared dead.*
