VMC, Victorias gov’t collaborating to boost livelihood, tourism in city

Victorias Milling Co. (VMC) and the Victorias City government are planning more partnerships to boost local tourism and to create more jobs, Linley Retirado, VMC president, said on Sunday, Dec. 17.

Retirado, Victorias Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, and Anne Tiongco, VMC Corporate Communications Director, opened the VMC. Art Exhibit featuring the winning artworks of the annual VMC Interschool Art Contest at the 2nd floor Lobby of the Victorias City Hall Sunday afternoon as part of the city’s 10th Kalamayan Festival.

The VMC Sabor Victorias Cook Fest was also held at the Victorias plaza on Sunday.

Barabgay 7 participants Kenneth Panton Langgote, Ferdie Eulord Pabalate and Keesh Bompat were the champions for the their Filipino Laing.

Retirado said VMC and the city government are in collaboration on how to create more jobs for Victoriahanons.

“Our management and Mayor Javi have talks on how to collaborate to generate more jobs. We always prefer employees from Victorias City due to its proximity to their homes. They know the culture of VMC as a company,” Retirado said.

He added that another field of collaboration is in tourism.

“The city is accessible to the Bacolod-Silay Airport through the Economic Highway. We are also rehabilitating the Victorias Golf and Country Club. We will be achieving it in two to three years with the help of the city government. We are inviting Negrense golfers to also play at our gold,” Retirado said.

Retirado also said that the company has been supporting the annual Kalamayan Festival organized by the city government since 2015.

Benitez said he is happy with the continued “partnership with VMC.”

“You can’t say Victorias City without VMC,” Benitez said adding that the city government owes a big gratitude and appreciation to VMC for having an annual VMC day during the Kalamayan Festival every December.
