Viral ‘Superman’ stunt in DSB triggers LTO investigation

A perilous “Superman” stunt, caught on a viral video showing a rider defying gravity along Orange Cliff in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, on Sunday, July 13, has prompted a Land Transportation Office Region VI (LTO-6) investigation.

The video shows the rider holding the handlebars while stretched flat on his speeding motorcycle, legs extended backward, mimicking Superman in flight.

The LTO-6 has issued a show-cause order to the rider of the Honda Click motorcycle, which was delivered to his residence in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, on Tuesday.

It cited Section 48 of Republic Act No. 4136, also known as the Reckless Driving law, that states that “No person shall operate a motor vehicle… recklessly or without reasonable caution… so as to endanger the… safety… of any person.”

The show cause order was prepared by Shiela Mae C. Alulod, the head of the LTO-6 Intelligence and Investigation Unit, and officially approved by Regional Director Gaudioso P. Geduspan II.

Alulod’s order said such stunts “pose serious risks to public safety.”

The potential consequences are dire: the suspension or even complete revocation of both the motorcycle’s registration and the rider’s driver’s license, a LTO 6 statement said.

The clock is now ticking for the responsible party, who has five calendar days from receiving the notice to submit a detailed, sworn written explanation.

The rider must outline the circumstances of the July 13 incident and provide justification as to why severe administrative sanctions should not be applied, the show cause order said.

“This show-cause order reaffirms our unwavering commitment — under DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon and Acting Assistant Secretary and LTO Chief Greg G. Pua Jr.’s enforcement campaign — to hold reckless riders accountable,” Geduspan said, “sending a clear message that such dangerous behavior will not be tolerated”.

The LTO-6 has committed to a thorough review of all available evidence before making a final decision on any penalties, he added.

Assistant Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu said “stunts like ‘Superman’ on public roads endanger lives. We urge all motorists to obey traffic laws and prioritize safety — especially on mountain passes where conditions can be unpredictable.”

LTO Region 6 also announced it will intensify its monitoring of social media for similar violations and will work closely with local law enforcement to decisively deter dangerous driving behavior.*
