There are 307 undernourished children in Victorias City who have been enrolled in a program that aims to convert their nutritional status in 365 days through a partnership between the Negrense Volunteers for Change (NVC) Foundation and the Victorias City government.

The program was launched at the Don Alejandro Acuña Yap Quiña Arts and Cultural Center in Victorias City on Wednesday, April 12.

Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, Councilor Danilo De Asis Jr. – SP Committee on Health chair, Councilor Derek Palanca – City Nutrition Action Officer, and Dr. Richard Garlitos – City Health Officer represented the LGU during the program launching together with the City Nutrition Council members.

They were joined by NVC Foundation president Millie Kilayko, executive director Inah Uytiepo and the field team.

“The program, which is funded by a grant from Sunlife Financial Philippines Foundation, primarily uses NVC’s Nutrition protocol which the foundation has implemented for more than 50,000 children to date,” Kilayko said.

“However, for the Victorias program, we have added features which are inspired by protocols of other countries which have successfully combatted malnutrition, and we are excited that Mayor Javi has taken efforts to be engaged, developed a keen understanding of the details and been involved in decision making on the implementation of some new features of the program”, she added.

NVC Foundation is a non-profit organization that has been helping malnourished children through Mingo Meals, a nutritious complementary food manufactured in their government accredited production plant in Bacolod City.*
