
Tropical Depression “Verbena” floods affected 48,550 families with 183,495 individuals in Negros Occidental on Tuesday, Nov. 25, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Irene Bel Ploteña said.
The 5th District of Negros Occidental had the most number of persons affected at 135,715 followed by the 4th District with 35,168, 6th District – 9,183, 3rd District – 2,257, 1st District – 970, and 2nd District – 202, the PDRRMO reported.
But there were only 21,986 residents left in evacuation centers, Ploteña said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) lifted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over Negros Occidental 5 p.m. Tuesday.
“Verbena” intensified into a tropical storm as it traversed the Sulu Sea towards northern Palawan, Pagasa reported at 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Ploteña said the LGUs affected in Negros Occidental were Toboso with 91 persons, San Carlos City – 874, Don Salvador Benedicto – 5, Sagay City – 202, EB Magalona – 248, Talisay City – 1,796, Murcia – 213, Valladolid – 2,789, Bago City – 740, Pontevedra – 1,501, La Carlota City – 654, San Enrique – 29,484. Binalbagan – 35,830, Hinigaran – 92,269, Isabela – 5,102, Moises Padilla – 2,514, Kabankalan City – 3,897, Ilog – 5,078 , Cauayan – 205 and Hinoba-an – 3.
Rain induced landslides were reported in barangays Igmayaan and Pandanon in Don Salvador Benedicto, the PDRRMO also reported.
Classes were suspended in all 31 LGUs in Negros Occidental on Tuesday..
The Negros Occidental provincial government and 15 LGUs also suspended work.*
