VAWC, frustrated homicide raps filed vs. man who hit partner, father with baseball bat

Police filed complaints for violation of the Violence Against Women and Their Children Act and frustrated homicide against a man who allegedly hit his partner and her senior citizen father with a steel baseball bat in Sagay City.

The incident happened in Brgy. Poblacion 1 on Tuesday afternoon, June 9.

Police identified the suspect as alias “Onel,” 47.

The victims were identified as alias “Eva,” a business owner and the suspect’s partner, and her senior citizen father.

Police Lt. Col. Alvimar Flores, Sagay police chief, said on June 12 the suspect and his partner had a misunderstanding before the incident.

Investigation showed that the suspect allegedly took a steel baseball bat and repeatedly hit his partner on the head.

Flores said the victim’s father tried to pacify the suspect but was also hit several times.

Members of both families helped restrain the suspect, who was later placed under the custody of the Sagay City Police Station.

Flores said the victims underwent surgery but are now in stable condition.

He said the suspect was subjected to inquest proceedings for a VAWC case involving his partner and frustrated homicide involving the victim’s father.

Flores said misunderstanding and anger were among the possible motives in the incident.

He said the suspect admitted that his anger may have built up and that he failed to control himself.

Flores said the suspect also expressed remorse over the incident.*
