Various contests launched to promote Negros culture

The Negros Cultural Foundation Inc. (NCFI) launched its “Pagsaulog: A Celebration of Negrense Culture” competitions on Thursday, July 28.

The competitions this year, to be conducted in  partnership with the Negros Occidental provincial government, include the Sine Negrense: Negros Island Film Festival, the “Cinco de Noviembre” short play competition, and the inter-local government unit (LGU) mural competition.

The “Pagsaulog: A Celebration of Negrense Culture” is an integrated cultural development program aimed at benefiting the province of Negros Occidental and the Negrense community through activities that provide a venue for artistic expression, cultural promotion and appreciation, and wellness and recovery using the arts, the NCFI press statement said.

It  was launched in response to the challenge of the Department of the Interior and Local Government Seal of Good Local Governance program that encourages local government units  to promote and conserve cultural heritage.

The launching was led by NCFI president Lyn Gamboa and  provincial tourism officer Cheryl Decena.

It aims to support various cultural and artistic programs, projects  and activities organized by the NCFI through the Negros Museum to provide a platform for cultural preservation and development of Negrense practices, art and history through research, for a and expressions in different creative disciplines, their statement said.

The Cinco de Noviembre short play competition allows the youth of all ages to learn more about the history and culture of Negros Occidental, it added.*
