The Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) is appealing to the public to refrain from donating more used clothing to fire victims in Brgy. 27, Bacolod City, and is urging donors to instead focus on other essential needs.
DSSD head Richelle Verdeprado-Mangga said while they are grateful for the overwhelming support extended to the 294 families affected by the fire, the evacuation site at Apolinario Mabini Elementary School has already been flooded with clothing donations.

“For us to help the survivors, we need to give them more compassion and understanding and provide the other essential goods they currently need,” Mangga said.
She emphasized that hygiene kits, kitchenware, diapers, comforters, and sanitation supplies are among the priority items needed by the displaced families.
The DSSD has already coordinated with the Barangay 27 council to sort through the excess clothing donations and explore ways to properly manage them.*
