An unidentified person already in an advanced state of decomposition was found inside a sugarcane field in Hacienda Bernabe, Brgy. Salvacion, Murcia, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday, July 2.
Maj. Sherwin Fernandez, Murcia Police Chief, said that while a farmer was plowing the field he smelled foul odor in the area and initially thought they found a dead animal.
They sought police assistance to verify and human remains already in an advanced state of decomposition were found.
Fernandez said that the area where the body was found is 20 meters away from the highway, which is poorly lighted because there are no solar lights installed yet.
The police requested the Scene of the Crime Operatives to process the area where the victim was found.
Fernandez said that they have yet to identify the victim as they have not received any reports of missing persons in Murcia.
The gender of the victim has not been determined as there were no things recovered around the area. The dead person was only wearing underwear.
Fernandez said they requested a post-mortem examination as there were no signs of wounds on the body.
But based on the initial examination of the victim they saw an abrasion on the neck which could be a sign of strangulation, he said.
The police said the body was brought to a funeral parlor and might be buried immediately after the post-mortem examination if no relatives surface to claim it.*
