An unidentified man died early Thursday morning, August 7, after being struck and run over by a passenger jeepney on the national highway in Brgy. Napacao, Siaton, Negros Oriental.

The jeepney driver, Jenie Boy Magsanay, a resident of Poblacion, Bayawan City, voluntarily surrendered to the Zamboanguita Police Station shortly after the incident.

Initial investigation revealed that Magsanay was en route to Dumaguete City from Bayawan to undergo a smoke emission test for his vehicle as part of the registration renewal process.

Upon reaching Barangay Napacao, Magsanay reportedly saw a man sitting in the middle of the road.

The man allegedly moved toward the approaching vehicle, resulting in the collision.

In his statement to authorities, Magsanay admitted fleeing the scene out of panic.

The victim sustained multiple injuries, including severe trauma to the face, and was declared dead at the site.

His body was brought to Eterna Zamboanguita Funeral Homes for post-mortem examination, while police continue efforts to identify him.

Magsanay has since been turned over to the custody of the Siaton Municipal Police Station as further investigation is underway.*
