Typhoon-hit Mambukal closed for repairs – guv

The Mambukal Resort & Wildlife Sanctuary in Murcia, Negros Occidental, has been temporarily closed following damage it sustained during Typhoon “Odette,” Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said Wednesday, December 29.

Lacson said bookings have been cancelled because massive cleaning and repairs of the sanctuary need to be undertaken.

Its reopening will depend on when rehabilitation work is completed, he added.

The typhoon toppled a lot of trees and power lines at the sanctuary, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

However, clearing and repairs may take some time because the priority of the provincial government now is its relief operations for residents affected by the typhoon, he said.

Numerous resorts in southern Negros Occidental, especially the beaches of Sipalay City, also sustained damages.

Aside from repairs needed, the lack of power and water is also hampering their reopening.*
