Typhoon deaths in Negros rise to 66, with 52 missing

The death toll from Typhoon “Tino” on Negros Island hit a grim 66 on Thursday, November 6, a figure officials expect to increase with more still missing.

There are 63 persons still missing - 52 in Negros Occidental and 11 in Canlaon City in Negros Oriental.

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said “it is very unfortunate that we have high number of casualties, some say it might be even more than (super typhoon) Odette”, which hit the province in 2021.

In Negros Occidental the dead were in Bago City - 6, La Castellana - 12, Murcia - 2, San Carlos City -5, La Carlota City -4, Hinigaran -7, Isabela -1, Moises Padilla - 6, Pontevedra - 1, Binalbagan -4 and Himamaylan -1, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The missing were in Bago City -5, La Castellana – 18, San Carlos – 2, La Carlota City – 11, Hinigaran – 2, Isabela – 3, and Moises Padilla – 11

In Negros Oriental the dead in Canlaon City rose to 16 with 11 missing. There was one death also reported in Vallehermoso.*
