Two drown in separate incidents in Negros Occidental

Two people, including an eight-year old girl, died in separate drowning incidents in the town of and Bago City, Negros Occidental, on August 26.

In Hinigaran, police reported that a 76-year-old farmer was found floating lifeless at the Camansi River in Sitio Mansulao, Brgy. Aranda at around 2 P.M.

The victim’s family said he stayed at his farm near the river on August 25 so he can continue his charcoal production and mentioned to a friend that he would take a swim.

When he failed to return home, his relatives searched for him and discovered his body the next day. No physical injuries were found on the body, consistent with drowning. 

In Bago City, an eight-year old Grade 3 student from Brgy. Ma-ao drowned in an irrigation canal in Purok Kaaghu-an around 9:45 A.M.

Police reports said the girl was washing clothes with her 13-year old brother when she suddenly jumped into the canal despite his warnings.

Swept by the strong current, the girl disappeared into a sloped irrigation structure. Her brother attempted to rescue her but failed.

The victim was rushed to the Bago City Hospital by volunteers but was declared dead on arrival.

Her remains were brought to St. Boniface Funeral Homes in Brgy. Lag-asan for post-mortem examination.

Authorities withheld the names of the victims.
