Two persons died in road accidents in Valladolid and Murcia, Negros Occidental, on Sunday night, May 24.
In Valladolid, a 44-year-old pedestrian died after he was hit by a van while crossing the national highway in Brgy. Palaka at around 6:40 p.m.
Police identified the victim as alias “Makmak,” a resident of Bais City, Negros Oriental.
Initial investigation showed the victim was crossing the road to buy water from a store on the opposite side when he was hit by a white Toyota Hi-Ace commuter van traveling from Bago City toward Valladolid proper.
Police said the van fled the scene after the incident but was later spotted near a church in Brgy. Poblacion and positively identified by a witness.
The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was rushed by Valladolid MDRRMO personnel to the Valladolid District Hospital, where he was declared dead by the attending physician.
The driver, identified as alias “Manuel,” 51, of Sipalay City, and the vehicle are now under the custody of the Valladolid police.
Meanwhile, in Murcia, a 45-year-old motorcycle driver died after he was hit by another motorcycle and later run over by a cargo truck along the national highway in Brgy. Blumentritt at around 10:20 p.m.
Police identified the victim as alias “Rey,” a resident of Brgy. Blumentritt.
Initial investigation showed the victim was driving his motorcycle from Canlaon View Subdivision and was about to enter the national highway when he was hit by another motorcycle driven by alias “Dan,” 23, of Bacolod City.
Police said the impact threw the victim toward the inner lane of the road, where he was run over by the left rear tire of a Mitsubishi Fuso cargo truck traveling from Bacolod City toward Murcia proper.
The victim sustained serious head injuries and was rushed by MDRRMO personnel to the Murcia Health Center, where he was declared dead by the attending physician.
The driver of the second motorcycle sustained minor injuries.
Police said the motorcycle driver, the truck driver, and the vehicles are under the custody of the Murcia police.*
