The two-day transportation strike of traditional jeepney operators and drivers in Bacolod City to convince President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to scrap the public transport modernization program has ended.

They will resume operations Friday, August 16, Rudy Catedral, president of the Bacolod Alliance for Commuters, Operators, and Drivers (BACOD), said.

The BACOD strike was also joined by members of the Kabacod Negros Transport Coalition and the United Negros Drivers and Operators Center.

Catedral said the majority of the traditional jeepney operators and drivers joined their strike.

The Bacolod City government and the police provided transportation assistance to stranded commuters during the strike.

But not all public transportation was paralyzed since modern jeepneys and taxis continued to ply the city streets.

The Federation of Bacolod City Drivers Association and Sentrong Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Negros did not join the strike, Eduardo “Junjun” Asis, SSTONE secretary general, said on Thursday.*
