The Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City has adequate oxygen supply and is coping with the huge influx of non COVID-19 patients, Dr. Maryann Maestral, TLJPH chief, said Wednesday, September 22.

She said the provincial government has an oxygen plant next to the TLJPH and had anticipated the needs of its hospitals.

They are reaping the benefits of projecting their oxygen needs, she said.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz are constantly checking on the hospital needs in the province to ensure that they are prepared, she said.

She said the bulk of the non COVID-19 patients are brought to the TLJPH and the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City, with the Corazon Locsin Motelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City already full.

Three other hospitals of the province – the Cadiz District Hospital, Valladolid District Hospital and the Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial District Hospital in Himamaylan City – have been designated as COVID-19 centers that cater solely to patients hit by the virus.

Ambulances seen lined up at the TLJPH Tuesday night is a usual site there and in other hospitals with numerous patients being brought in. It is like Christmas Eve with the blinking lights, she said.

Maestral again reminded the public to stop holding birthday parties and mass gatherings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 that is straining the capacity of hospitals.

Some people are not afraid of the virus anymore because of misinformation, Maestral said.*
