‘Tino’ death toll in Negros 96, reconciled figures show

Typhoon “Tino” killed 96 people in Negros Island, data released by the Office of Civil Defense showed on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

The final number was reached after the Management of the Dead and Missing cluster reconciled its list, the OCD NIR said.

It said Moises Padilla has the highest number of recorded deaths at 19 followed by Canlaon City with 18, La Castellana – 14, Hinigaran – 10, Isabela – 8, Bago City – 7, Binalbagan – 6, La Carlota City – 4, San Carlos City – 3, Murcia – 2 and Himamaylan City, Pontevedra, Ilog, San Enrique and Vallehermoso with one each.

The missing are 40 with La Castellana having 13, Moises Padilla – 10, Bago – 4, Isabela – 4, La Carlota City – 3, Canlaon City – 3 and San Carlos City – 2.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council has terminated the Search, Rescue and Retrieval Operations.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, who was in Bacolod on Wednesday, reiterated that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will continue to extend his assistance to the province until Negros rises again and recovers from Typhoon “Tino”.*
