3 fishermen honored for rescuing capsizing boat’s victims

Three fishermen were honored by the Philippine Coast Guard for their heroic rescue of three persons from a capsized boat in the waters off Brgy. Santo Niño, San Jose, Negros Oriental.

The awarding ceremony was at the headquarters of the Coast Guard District Southern Visayas in Brgy. Looc, Dumaguete City, Monday morning, Jan. 19.

The awardees were Jefrie Raganas, Sherwin Obregon, and Leo Yangko, who were recognized for their swift response and bravery during the maritime incident.

Coast Guard Southern Visayas District, in a press release, said the fishermen displayed conspicuous courage and decisive action that led to the successful rescue of the victims and prevented further loss of life at sea.

Commodore Christopher D. Auro, commander of the Coast Guard District Southern Visayas, lauded the fishermen for exemplifying public service and bayanihan, noting their actions reflected the highest traditions of honor and dedication in the maritime community.

Auro said the fishermen’s actions highlighted the vital role of coastal communities in ensuring maritime safety and supporting lifesaving efforts.*
