Teen driver crashes into tricycles after falling asleep at wheel

An 18-year-old driver sustained minor injuries after his vehicle crashed into three parked tricycles in Purok Kalingling, Barangay 1, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, early Tuesday morning, July 15.

The teenager, identified only as “Earl,” a resident of Calatrava town, was driving a Toyota Raize when he allegedly dozed off, lost control, and slammed into the tricycles at around 6:50 a.m., police said.

Capt. Rodney Sarona, San Carlos Deputy Police Chief, said Earl had just dropped off his two younger siblings at school and was on his way back to Calatrava when the accident occurred.

“Earl admitted he lacked sleep and accidentally fell asleep while driving,” Sarona added.

The collision resulted in damages to the three tricycles and the Toyota Raize.

The owners of the tricycles and Earl have since reached a settlement, with the teen agreeing to shoulder the cost of the damages.*
