The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Union Negros Island Region and the Bacolod City Public School Teachers Federation (BCPSTF) on Thursday, Sept. 4, issued a united call for just wages, decent benefits, and quality education for all.
They are marking National Teachers’ Month on Friday to sound the alarm on the worsening plight of teachers in Negros Island and across the country, Grace Abellar of ACT Union NIR said in a press release.
Despite their central role in shaping the nation’s future, teachers remain underpaid, overworked, and underserved by the government, the press release said.
The ACT Union NIR and BCPSTF are demanding a ₱50,000 entry-level salary for Teacher I, a substantial increase in the national education budget, expanded health and welfare benefits for teachers, and living wages for all.
The teachers are holding a caravan from the Bacolod City Government Center, culminating at Bacolod City National High School, on Friday morning to amplify the unity and urgency of their calls for just wages and a pro-people education system.*
