Teacher, laborer die in motorcycle crashes

A teacher and a laborer died in separate motorcycle crashes in Negros Occidental  Wednesday night,  June 17.

In Ilog, a 26-year-old teacher was killed in a head-on collision between two motorcycles along the national highway in Crossing Biaren, Brgy. Manalad at about 8:43 p.m.

Police identified the fatality as “Vince,” a teacher at Kabankalan Catholic College and an SK Chairperson of Brgy. Yao-yao, Cauayan.

Investigation by the Ilog Municipal Police Station showed that the victim was riding a Yamaha Sniper motorcycle toward Cauayan when another motorcycle, driven by a 29-year-old man identified as “Jun,” allegedly entered his lane while attempting to overtake an unidentified vehicle.

The maneuver resulted in a head-on collision that injured both drivers.

The victims were rushed to the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City, where the teacher was declared dead.

The other driver remains confined in the same hospital.

Meanwhile, in La Castellana, a 49-year-old laborer died after being struck by a motorcycle while pushing his tricycle that had a mechanical problem along a provincial road in Hacienda Najalinan, Brgy. Robles at about 11:50 p.m.

Police identified the victim as “Nel,” who was accompanied by his wife and minor son at the time of the incident.

Investigation by the La Castellana Municipal Police Station revealed that the victim was  pushing his tricycle toward the town proper when he was hit by an approaching motorcycle driven by a 35-year-old pizza maker.

Both drivers sustained injuries and were brought to the Rural Health Unit for treatment.

However, the tricycle driver was declared dead  by the attending municipal health officer.

The motorcycle driver was later transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City for further treatment.

Police said the victim’s wife and son were unharmed.

The vehicles involved in both incidents were placed under police custody pending further investigation.*
