The Talisay City Sangguniang Panlugnsod passed a resolution on Tuesday, August 27, endorsing and urging Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel “Javi” Benitez to run for representative of the 3rd District of Negros Occidental.

The EB Magalona Sangguniang Bayan on August 19 also passed a similar resolution, Mayor Marvin Malacon said on Monday.

A vacuum in the third district has been left with the appointment of Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez as Director General of Technical Education and Skills Development Administration.

The Talisay SP members, in their resolution, urged Javier Miguel Benitez to run for representative of the 3rd District because as president of the Negros Association of Chief Executives and mayor of Victorias City he has “implemented initiatives that made a mark not just in the Province of Negros Occidental and Region 6, but in the entire country”.

“Mayor Javi’s competent and effective leadership has been affirmed by Victorias City’s passing the Seal of Good Local Governance during his tenure,” it added.

His leadership skills and commitment to public service make him fitting to be the next congressman of the 3rd District, the resolution added.

Murcia Mayor Gerry Rojas and Silay mayoral candidate Mark Golez on Monday also said they were endorsing Benitez for congressman.*
