Talisay mpox patient had history of travel

The first mpox patient in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, is a 20-year-old woman with history of travel within the Philippines, Dr. Girlie Pinongan, Provincial Health Officer, said on Tuesday, June 24.

The 20-year-old had rashes and a fever in the second week of June, went for a checkup and was advised to undergo a test for mpox, Pinongan said.

It is not clear where and how the 20-year-old got mpox, she said.

Pinongan said because she was a suspected mpox case, the patient was advised to isolate and was given treatment.

The patient was not hospitalized.

The results of her test stating that she was positive for Mpox came out during the weekend, Pinongan said.

The 20-year-old has recovered but remains in isolation at home, she said.

Her family who also isolated have no symptoms of mpox, Pinongan said.

Talisay City Health Office personnel have already conducted contact tracing.

Pinongan said there is nothing to be afraid of as the situation is under control.

Two to three other suspected mpox cases are being monitored in Negros Occidental, and their test results are being awaited, Pinongan said

It is important to observe proper hygiene, especially hand washing, she said.

Persons with fever and unexplained rashes should seek immediate consultation, Pinongan said.*
