A resident of Talisay City in Negros Occidental was killed after he ran amok outside his home in Barangay Dos Hermanas on Sunday, January 9.
Killed was Sunny Caballero, 45.
Police said the victim’s partner, who was accompanied by the barangay watchmen, went to his house to get her things.
But the victim threatened to hack himself with a scythe, then set his house on fire.
He also allegedly attacked a barangay tanod, who sustained wounds on his arm and head, the police said. The barangay watchman was rushed to Queen of Mercy Hospital, Bacolod City
This prompted the other tanod, identified as Alan Dela Rosa, to disarm the victim, who grabbed the barangay official’s .357 caliber pistol from his waist that accidentally fired, hitting Caballero in the head.
The victim was declared dead on arrival at the Talisay City Health Center.
The tanod was detained at the police station.*
