Talisay gives first-ever ‘Bravest Awards’

Mayor Rowena Lizares launched Talisay’s Bravest Awards — the first of its kind dedicated to recognizing extraordinary courage and selfless public service, on Monday, Nov. 24.

The newly established honor celebrates frontliners and everyday heroes who stood firm for Talisaynons during emergencies, disasters, and life-threatening situations.

Plaques of recognition were presented to the first batch of Talisay’s Bravest Awardees, honored for their bravery during the onslaught of Typhoon Tino and Typhoon Uwan.

They awardees were:

*Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, headed by Geofferey “Spyxe” Gutierrez;

*Talisay City Primary Care Facility, headed by Dr. Joy Gladys Guanzon;

*City Social Welfare and Development Office, headed by Dionela Madrona;

*Bureau of Fire Protection–Talisay City, headed by FSInsp. Joebert Sanao;

*Talisay City Component Police Office, headed by PLt. Col. Alvin Christopher Baybayan; and

*Kusina ni Mayor Weng – Community Affairs Office.;

Additional special citations were also given to Talisay CDRRMO, headed by Gutierrez, for their bravery during the Collapse Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) mission in Bogo City, Cebu.

The late Rocky Billones was honored posthumously for his heroism and dedication during Typhoon Uwan.

Lizares lauded the awardees, saying their courage and willingness to run toward danger when others retreat are what make Talisay stronger.

As Talisay City commemorates this milestone, the inaugural “Talisay’s Bravest Award” stands as a tribute to modern-day heroes and a reminder of the city’s commitment to nurturing courage, compassion, and exemplary public service, Lizares said.*
