The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Tuesday, July 2, issued another notice of elevated volcanic sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas at Kanlaon Volcano.Volcanic SO2 gas emission from the summit crater on Tuesday averaged 5,083 tons, the second highest emission from the volcano recorded this year and the third since instrumental gas monitoring began, Phivolcs said. Kanlaon has been degassing increased concentrations of volcanic SO2 and volcanic earthquake activity has persisted at an average of 10 events per day, it said. The overall monitoring parameters indicate that magmatic processes beneath volcano may be driving current unrest, causing persistently high concentrations of volcanic gas emission, swelling of the edifice, and occasional volc...

The Kanlaon Volcano expulsion   of ash and sulfur has affected 4,764 animals causing losses of P1,248,000 in two cities and one town in Negros Occidental, the Provincial Veterinary Office reported on Tuesday, July 2. The affected animals were from Bago City, La Carlota City and La Castellana, the PVO report submitted to Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said. Affected were swine - 98, cattle – 16, carabaos – 53, goat and sheep – 103 and   poultry – 4,488, the report said.*
