The government suspension of rice importation has helped improve the buying price of palay from farmers.
The buying price of palay has reached P18 per kilo from P12 per kilo previously, which is good for the rice farmers, Pedro Limpangog, Federation of Irrigators Association Central Negros-Bago River Irrigation System president, said on Thursday, Dec. 18.
The palay production cost of the farmer is at P13 to 14 per kilo, he said.
At P18 per kilo the farmer can make a profit, especially if they have a good harvest, Limpangog said.
He pointed out that some farmers have been affected by the recent typhoons.
Hopefully harvest will improve in the coming weeks with better weather, he said.*
