Suspected smuggled cigarettes with an estimated value of P100,000 were found abandoned on the side of the road in Hacienda Casal-agan Dako, Barangay DSB, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, late Monday night, Dec. 15.
Police said personnel of the Pontevedra Municipal Police Station, together with the Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, conducted a validation at around 11:40 p.m. after receiving information from a confidential agent.
Authorities discovered several sacks of suspected smuggled cigarettes beside the road in the presence of the barangay captain of Brgy. DSB.
Recovered were three large plastic sacks containing 120 reams of cigarettes branded “Canon Menthol,” a sack with 40 reams of “Tradition” cigarettes, and one master case of the same brand.
Police said the recovered items were properly documented before being brought to the Pontevedra police station for safekeeping.
The suspected smuggled cigarettes were later turned over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for proper disposition, while efforts are ongoing to identify those responsible for the smuggling.*
