Suspect arrested after fatal shooting in Talisay City

Police arrested a 50-year-old man following a fatal shooting inside a residence in Brgy. Concepcion, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, early Friday morning, Oct. 9.

The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region identified the suspect only as alias “Bongbong,” a widower and resident of Zone 3, Brgy. Concepcion.

The shooting happened at about 4:30 a.m.

Police said they received a report from a concerned citizen at around 5 a.m. and immediately proceeded to the area.

Responding officers found the suspect still inside the victim’s residence and, after negotiations, convinced him to surrender voluntarily.

Police subsequently entered the house and found the victim lying on the floor with visible wounds.

Initial investigation showed that the victim’s brother-in-law, who was at an adjacent residence preparing coffee, heard the suspect arrive and talk with the victim shortly before a gunshot was heard from inside the house.

Personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Talisay responded and found the victim with no signs of life.

Scene of the Crime Operatives were also called to process the area and conduct forensic examination.

PRO-NIR director Brig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales said police also recovered the firearm allegedly used in the shooting.

The suspect was brought to the Talisay City Police Station for documentation and further investigation and later underwent medical examination at the Talisay City Health Office.

Police said investigation is continuing to establish the motive and full circumstances of the shooting and to prepare the appropriate charges against the suspect.*
