
A special performance by the Barangay Granada MassKara Festival 2023 grand champion will be held for visitors from South Korea at the Paglaum Stadium in Bacolod City at 9 a.m. Thursday, November 9.
The performance is open to all who want to witness the world class performance of Barangay Granada, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said.
The special performance will be held for the visiting Andong City Council members, he said.
City Council Chairman Keon Gi lk and city council members Kim Ho Suk, Kim Jeaung Rim and An Yu An from Andong, Bacolod’s sister city in South Korea, are in Bacolod for a 4-day benchmarking trip, Councilor Em Ang said.
The visiting councilors are members of the Andong Art and Culture Committee and would like to exchange ideas regarding mask festivals, Ang said.
Andong City is best known for its Andong Mask Dance Festival, which focuses on masks from around the world. It is held every September in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Ang added.
The festival has its roots in ancient shamanistic beliefs and practices and is believed to have originated during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).
Bacolod City’s MassKara Festival dancers have performed a number of times in the past at the Andong Mask Dance Festival, Ang added.*
