The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod has passed a resolution enjoining the participation of all city government departments, including the 61 barangays, in the celebration of the National Disability Rights Week from July 17 to 23.

The resolution, approved on June 24, states that the celebration aims to stimulate public awareness of the problems of disability and encourage every citizen to take active responsibility in the uplifting of the economic and social conditions of the disabled members of the society.

In June President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. issued Proclamation No. 597 declaring July 17 to 23 as National Disability Rights Week.

It repealed Proclamation Nos. 1870 and 361 to make the celebration consistent with the purpose of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and to promote a rights-based approach on the celebration.

The resolution urged city government employees, department heads, barangay officials, school administrators and personnel, students, and residents to take part in the week-long celebration to show appreciation, gratitude, love, and respect to persons with disability.

The resolution was passed on motion of Councilor Simplicia Distrito and seconded by   councilors Claudio Puentevella and Em Ang.*
