LGUs suspending classes with more rains expected

Bacolod City and 21 towns and cities in Negros Occidental suspended classes Tuesday, Feb. 10, as rains brought on by the shear line and the northeast monsoon poured.

Victorias City, E.B. Magalona, Binalbagan and Himamaylan City also announced that they are suspending classes on Wednesday.

“We are under red warning in Victorias. According to reports, there is a high possibility of serious flooding, especially in low-lying areas. For the safety of all, classes will be suspended,” the city government announced on its Facebook page.

Due to continuous foul weather brought by the shear line, Mayor Matt Malacon also announced there will be no classes on Wednesday at all levels in of E.B. Magalona.

Mayor Raymund Tongson said the suspension of classes in Himamaylan on Wednesday is “a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of our students, teachers, and school personnel, particularly those in low-lying and geographically isolated areas that may be affected by flooding”.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the areas where classes were suspended on Tuesday were Calatrava, Escalante City, San Carlos City, and Toboso in the 1st District; Cadiz City, Manapla, and Sagay City in the 2nd District;

E.B. Magalona, Murcia, Silay City, and Talisay City in the 3rd District; Bago City, La Carlota City, Pulupandan, San Enrique, and Valladolid in the 4th District; and Himamaylan City, Hinigaran, Isabela, La Castellana, and Moises Padilla in the 5th District.*
