
Some local governments in southern Negros Occidental have cancelled classes on Monday, Sept. 22, in anticipation of heavy rains brought on by Super Typhoon “Nando” and the Southwest Monsoon
The LGUs that cancelled classes were Kabankalan City, Binalbagan, Himamaylan City, Hinigaran, Hinoba-an and Isabela.
However, a Malacañang circular issued on Sunday did not include Negros on its list of areas where classes have been suspended on Monday.
Included in Malacañang’s list are: Metro Manila, Abra, Antique, Apayao, Bataan, Batanes, Batangas, Benguet, Bulacan, Cagayan, Cavite, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, llocos Sur, Isabela, Kalinga, La Union, Laguna, Mountain Province, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Palawan, Romblon, Rizal, Tarlac and Zambales.
But it said the localized cancellation or suspension of classes and or work in government offices in other regions may be implemented by their respective local chief executives.
Negros Occidental is not expected to be directly be hit by Super Typhoon Nando.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in its 11 p.m. bulletin on Sunday said the eye of the super typhoon was estimated to be 350 km East Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan or 360 km East of Calayan, Cagayan.*
