Mayor John Rey Tabujara suspended classes at all levels in 74 schools in Cauayan, Negros Occidental, due to heavy rains on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
Heavy rains believed to have been triggered by Typhoon “Leon” hit the coastal areas of Cauayan as early as 6 a.m., he said.
Classes were suspended to prevent students from being stranded due to flooding that may happen with the unpredictable weather, the mayor said.
Ian Arnold Arnaez, Negros Occidental Schools Division spokesman, said that students would shift to automatic modular learning so as not to affect their school days.
Typhoon “Leon” was over the waters east of Cagayan at 5 p.m. Tuesday, state weather bureau Pagasa said.
Meanwhile, classes in Himamaylan City and Isabela have also been suspended Wednesday, Oct. 30, due to expected inclement weather brought on by “Leon”.*
