One soldier was killed in an encounter with the New People’s Army in Barangay Tamlang, Escalante, Negros Occidental, at 2:10 p.m. on Monday, June 1.
He was among the 79th Infantry Battalion soldiers who encountered remnants of the New People’s Army responsible for the killing of civilians in Northern Negros, Lt. Col. Eric Alfonso, 79th IB commander, said.
He said the 79th IB conducted an operation against them because they received information that they were targeting more civilians in the area.
