A soldier and three suspected rebels were injured after they figured in a firefight at Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental Wednesday, March 16, the Army said.
The soldiers were conducting combat patrols in response to the reports of extortion activities from villagers when they encountered the suspected members of the New People’s Army that led to a seven-minute firefight.
The wounded soldier from the 94th Infantry Battalion was immediately evacuated to a hospital in Bacolod City.
The Army said that three rebels were allegedly wounded, based on the discovered bloodstains in the enemy withdrawal route and the information given by concerned civilians in the area.
MGen. Benedict Arevalo, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, said that the people in Negros are fed up with the lies and deceit of the NPA, so they promptly inform the government forces of the presence of rebels in their areas.*
