SMB Bacolod inks pacts with two labor unions

The Department of Labor and Employment in Western Visayas commended the new collective bargaining agreements between San Miguel Brewery in Bacolod and its two employees’ unions during the signing ceremonies held in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, Monday, November 28.

DOLE regional director Sixto Rodriguez said the SMB negotiations with PACIWU-TUCP- Bacolod Brewery Plant Chapter and the San Miguel Brewing Group-Bacolod Brewery Employees Union may be the fastest in the country because both were done in record-breaking 32 minutes, a press release from SMB said.

“This shows how both unions and management respect and trust the process and have recognized themselves as partners, he added.

Rodriguez also lauded the management for recognizing labor as the most important asset of the company.

Union presidents Teddy Danieles of SMBG-BBEU and Ruel Esique of PACIWU-TUCP-BBPC separately expressed their gratitude for the company’s “malasakit” especially at the height of the pandemic.

They said that the employees are united with the ongoing recovery efforts of the company that was not spared by the effects of the pandemic.

The separate signing ceremonies were witnessed by SMB president Roberto Huang and his Operations Committee. It was also attended by Melinda Lee of the National Conciliation and Mediation Board.*
