A Sangguniang Kabataan kagawad and two other suspected drug personalities were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Prk. Sigay, Brgy. 2, Bacolod City, shortly after midnight on Monday, Jan. 19, with the police seizing an estimated P714,000 worth of suspected shabu.
The police identified the arrested suspects as alias “Jov,” 23, an elected SK kagawad and resident of Brgy. 12; alias “Jess,” 19, a high-value individual and resident of Brgy. 10; and alias “JM,” 18, a street-level individual and resident of Brgy. 9, all in Bacolod City.
The operation, conducted at around 12:09 a.m. by operatives of Police Station 2 of the Bacolod City Police Office, resulted in the confiscation of about 105 grams of suspected shabu.
Recovered from the suspects’ possession were a genuine P1,000 buy-bust bill with boodle money, a blue sling bag, two coin purses, one knot-tied plastic bag containing suspected shabu, and 15 heat-sealed sachets of suspected illegal drugs.
The police said the suspects were apprehended after allegedly selling the illegal substance to a poseur buyer.
The suspects are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The arrested individuals are currently under police custody, while the confiscated drug evidence was submitted to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Forensic Unit for laboratory examination.
Police officials said the arrest of a sitting SK official underscores that no individual, regardless of position or status, is exempt from law enforcement operations against illegal drugs.*
