A student leader from St. John’s Institute was elected mayor of Bacolod City for the “Boys and Girls” Week of the city government and Rotary Club of Bacolod this week, Nov. 18 to 22.

Libby Ponce Tangco of SJI is the mayor, while STI West Negros University’s Lorein Althea Opelario is the vice mayor.

The Rotary Club of Bacolod, in a press release, said it has been conducting the event for 51 years, which aims to provide the youth with effective leadership skills and knowledge on good governance.

Also elected city councilors were Christian Div Ledesma from Cabug National High School, Kurt Bryan Villanueva from SJI, Leone Christina Liongson of St. Rose of Lima, El Kenjee Ababa from Domingo Lacson NHS, Andrei Gabriel Pico of SJI;

Anne Josephine Manayon of La Consolacion College, Noelle Cassandra Apuhin of Bacolod Tay Tung High School, Anya Therese Brito of SJI, Camille Therese Pedrajas of Mansilingan Agro-Industrial High School, Althea Juderna Billones of Sum-ag NHS;

Paulene Therese Radislao of Colegio San Agustin Bacolod, Daniela Cuevas of Holy Family High School, Arriana Grace Adisas of MG Medalla Integrated School, and Juliana Kim Jacildo of BTTHS.

They will have an opportunity to be city government officials and are expected to ask questions, join in planning, pass resolutions, participate in Sanggunian sessions and interact with their counterparts and subordinates, the Rotary Club of Bacolod press release said.*
