Sipalay’s Burangoy kite festival returns

Colorful and unique kites or “buradors” will once again fill the sky above the Sipalay City Poblacion beach as the Burangoy Tourism Kite Festival returns this March on its 8th year.

The kite festival is one of the major events in celebration of the 21st Charter Anniversary of the City of Sipalay, a press release from the city government said.

Kite flying exhibitions will start March 30 to April 3, while the kite flying competition will be on March 31, with the following categories: Flat Kites, Figure Kites, Message of Hope Kites and Barungoy Kites.

The competition is open to all kite enthusiasts within Negros Occidental.

In support of the no plastic policy, all entries should not be made of any plastic material. More information and guidelines will be posted in the Sipalay City Tourism Office and LGU of Sipalay City official Facebook pages, the press released said.

The festival had previously been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The city government will ensure that minimum public health standards are observed during the celebration of the Charter Anniversary and the kite festival.

The Sipalay City Tourism Office also conducted a two-day Kite Making Workshop February 23 to 24, in celebration of the Arts Month and in preparation for the kite festival.*
