Rep.-elect Mercedes Alvarez (Negros Occidental, 6th District) said she has coordinated with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration for the safe return of a Sipalay City resident who was reported to have been abused by her employer in Saudi Arabia.
Daiamy Restauro Cabaluna of Barangay 5, Sipalay City, whose video seeking help went viral on Facebook, is now in the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh.
Her employer in Saudi Arabia allegedly locked her in a room, did not feed her and would not allow her to return home prompting calls for help from netizens.
A video of a weeping Cabaluna was shown on Facebook speaking to a relative who reminded her not to give up, and assured her that she will be able to return home.
Cabaluna, in the video, kept saying she would be jailed and appeared to be suffering from a breakdown.
Alvarez said she will see to the return to Cabaluna to her family in Sipalay.*
